Hi, I’m Erin. I’m a wife, momma of 1, runner, wildlife biologist, and now a blogger. I live in the beautiful Bluegrass state of Kentucky. I created Momma Runs Hard to help you balance your running life with parenting. To encourage and inspire you in your running journey and raising a family.
I’ve been running for over 19 years, with many years of competitive racing (not a pro) thrown in. I’ve had plenty of highs and lows and ran everything from a 3K to an 50K ultra marathon. I was married for over 10 years before I had my son. So I had plenty of years where it was just my husband, Chris, and me. We ran and raced often and never realized and appreciated how much free time we truly had. Now I’m a mom of a 3 year old boy and trying to find the balance between my love for running and time spent with my son and family. Learning to manage the daily struggles of raising a strong-willed, independent kid and finding time and energy to run, along with all the other things we must do in a day, like cooking, cleaning, spending time with our spouses and pets, and working full-time.
I’ve been lucky to have a great group of friends to run with over the years and share life experiences. I’ve learned being a better runner takes years, lots of miles, consistency and lots of hard work. Running helps make me a better parent. It gives me the me time I need and keeps me physically and mentally fit, which you need to be to keep up with energetic toddlers. It gives me time to think and decompress if I’m having a rough day, so I don’t bring any negativity from my day home to my son. So I can focus on enjoying time with him before he gets too old to want to play with mom.
Balancing life as a wife, mom, working full-time, and running is definitely a struggle. Sometimes there isn’t enough time for everything. So we do the best we can with the time we have.
So I’d like to share some tips and advice with you on many running and parenting topics, in hopes of inspiring you and helping you achieve the balance you desire.
I hope you enjoy your time here. I welcome any feedback or questions you may have. It can help us grow together.
Cam out for his first bike ride.
